The technology used in the farming industry is advancing and one of the newly used ones is the usage of drones and the development of codes that control the drones, in the industry, this type of technology is being used mainly for monitoring big crop areas.

At ARRK North America Inc. our team of experts can help you in the designing and production of these technologies, with our many options of production processes, such as CNC machining, urethane casting, injection molding, etc.

WHAT ARE DRONES USED FOR IN THE AGRICULTURE FIELDS?

Drones can be used for many processes necessary for crop monitoring; their versatility and easiness for tool implementation into the drone itself, have made them excellent for farmers.

There are many things drones can help such as scouting the best terrain for the crops that they want to plant, by using cameras they can see the moisture of the soil, the types of plants in the area, and the steepness of the terrain. Drones are also being deployed across all stages of production, including seedling, pre-plant, plant, and harvest.

TYPES OF AGRICULTURE TASKS BEING DONE BY DRONES

Drone Irrigation: Drones are now being used to irrigate crops using water droplets sprayed from the air, this method is called aerial irrigation and it uses less water than conventional methods, but it requires specialized equipment. It’s not yet clear whether this technique is cost-effective or if it provides any additional benefit.

Spray Application: Apart from water, drones can also spray pesticides and fertilizers on crops, which means they can be used to monitor and control pests and diseases. They can also be used to apply herbicides to weeds, fungicides to fungus, and insecticides to insects.

Drone Pollination: They are increasingly being used to pollinate crops, in some cases, they can replace conventional methods of pollination, which can be costly and labor-intensive; for example, honeybees were previously used to pollinate almond trees, but this method was found to be too inefficient.

Monitoring Field Conditions: Drones can collect data on soil moisture, temperature, wind speed, light intensity, and atmospheric pressure. They can also measure crop health, water quality, and nutrient levels, these data can then be sent back to the farm manager who can act based on this information; for example, if the soil is too wet, it may not be safe to plant crops.
